3E has been appointed by POM Antwerp to provide technical advisory services and guidance during the tendering process for the installation of a floating PV system at the Science Park University of Antwerp in Niel, Belgium.

As provincial development agency, POM Antwerp aims to boost the economy of the Antwerp region by setting up sustainable business parks such as the Science Park of the University of Antwerp. Located between Brussels and Antwerp, this former clay pit is now surrounded by ponds and particularly well suited for hosting floating PV panels. In line with its sustainability objectives, POM Antwerp launched a call for tender.

From the specification of the technical parameters of the tender, to the contract negotiation and closure with the awarded EPC company, 3E guided the client during the whole tender process. Given the rapid evolution of the floating PV market, the technical specifications were tailored by our PV experts to allow new technologies to be integrated without jeopardising neither the reliability nor the expected lifetime of the installation.

Guy Vandendungen, Solar PV Expert at 3E, explains:
“Thanks to our 20-year experience in technical due diligence for PV projects, our market knowledge and the flexibility of our consultants, we have managed to complete the tender in record time. This has enabled the project to rapidly move forward.”
He adds:
“Next steps will be to carry out the design verification, monitor the execution of the works from a technical point of view, and then review the acceptance protocols.”

The floating PV plant is expected to be built by early 2021 and to cover more than 50% of the current electricity consumption of the incubator and laboratories of the business park. It is also planned in a later phase to expand the installation with local storage facilities in order to further improve self-consumption and grid independence.

This successful collaboration testifies to 3E’s in-depth technological know-how in complex PV facilities, as well as to its ability to adapt to the client’s specific objectives, always securing the best financial return.
